SSAT Preparation Timeline

Months before the test

Although test day is probably far ahead in the distant future, you can still start preparing for it today! If you haven’t already been taking good care of yourself so that you can function at your best and soak up all that knowledge, now is a good time to begin. First, make sure you start getting lots of quality sleep, food and exercise so that you will continue to be well-rested, healthy, and energized over the next few months (you will need the energy for all that studying).

Several weeks before the test

Begin winding down a few hours before you go to bed each night by turning off all technology and engaging in a light and relaxing activity, such as reading, drawing or stretching. Get in the habit of having a good night’s rest, so you can wake up bright and early each day, full of energy to conquer your day!

The day before the test

Gather the materials that you will be bringing with you to the test. Print out your SSAT Admission Ticket and review the information on it so you know where and when to arrive for your test. If needed, print out the directions to the SSAT Test Centre.

Bring several pre-sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers attached (actual erasers are not permitted) and a pencil sharpener. Prepare some portable snacks in clear plastic bags, such as fruit, trail mix, or granola bars. Bring plenty of water. You may feel chilly while writing the test, so don’t forget to bring an extra sweater or cardigan. Electronic devices will not be permitted, but if you do bring a cell phone, you will be submitting it to the proctor before you begin the test. The phone will be returned to you after you have written the test.

The night before the test

You know the drill! Do a relaxing activity. Rest early, sleep early, and wake early the next day, so you will have plenty of time to begin preparing for the big day.

On the day of the test

Wake up a few hours before you depart for the test centre, and do some light stretching! It’s a great way to begin your day and feel more grounded and calm. Go through your morning routine in a mindful, unhurried manner. If you catch yourself worrying too much, take a few deep breaths and remind yourself of all the effort you put into preparing for this day! You know you’re going to ace this test! Choose to wear clothes that make you feel confident and ready to seize the day! Make sure that they are comfortable as well, as you will be sitting for a long time. Have a light and nourishing breakfast made of unrefined whole foods and a healthy source of protein so that you will have lots of sustained energy to get you through the day. Pack your bag with snacks and any other last minute items, and get ready to head towards the test centre, so you can ace this test!
